Capella is an online university offering both undergraduate and graduate degree as well as individual classes, courses and certificate programs. Owned by Capella Education Company, it offers degrees in several fields and is open to international students regardless of age, nationality or country of residency.
Capella University is one of the largest online colleges in the United States. Based out of Minnesota, it offers 114 undergraduate and graduate degrees, plus over 1000 courses that lead to certificates and diplomas. Students come from all 50 states and 55 countries around the world, with over 28,000 enrolled at any given time. About 46 percent are graduate students pursuing master degrees, 36 percent are enrolled in PhD programs and only 18 percent pursuing bachelors and associate degrees. Over 1,000 professors based in nine different countries are available to guide classes, grade projects and offer backing to those pursuing a degree.
Capella offers degrees in seven major areas: business management, health care, education, human capital management, information technology, mental health and public safety. There are numerous specializations within each field. For example, students in the public safety field can choose to work on degrees in criminal justice, emergency management, public safety leadership, information assurance and security or general human resources. While all programs are taught completely online, there are residency requirements for students enrolled in certain PhD programs. Graduates from the clinical psychology degree will need to complete a year of residency before receiving their degrees, while other programs require a 15-day residency (split into three five-day periods on consecutive years).
The school portal offers access to the alumni center which you can use for networking and looking for employment opportunities. There are many other services available, like access to grants and other public money. Some of the graduates have criticized the alumni center as not being so useful, and being mostly just for show. However, most graduates are very happy with it.
Because this school is targeted to students who are already in jobs, its opportunities for on campus employment are pretty bare. The thought is that the reason you’ve chosen to study there rather than at a more traditional college is that you are already in a jobs . If you live outside Minneapolis, the school does not offer much in the way of employment for its students.
The school does offer a wide range of services to students with various handicaps. There is a variety of software available, and the staff makes an extra effort to accommodate students with disabilities. The school is consistently ranked high among higher educational institutions for its services for disabled students. There is mobility assistance, sign language interpreter service as well and additional time given to those who need it.
